Being raised by an Air Force Test Pilot and a mother who was an Artistic Expressionist gave Dawn exposure to many different environments and a love for the arts.  Love of travel, took Dawn to many distant places that continued to spark her creative curiosity.

During a 5-year stay at Germantown, Tennessee her love of art steered her to become a Docent for the Dixon Gallery and Gardens Museum. Being inspired by all the impressionists’ paintings she started drawing again, using colored pencil and acrylics. This then led to oil painting classes with Marilyn Wannamaker for a few years that made her thirstier for knowledge and skill. She then enrolled at the University of Memphis to work on a Fine Arts Degree for two years taking as many studio courses as she could before moving to Valparaiso, Indiana.

Working at Lifestyles the Gallery once more peaked her love of art, and she was encouraged by a friend to enter a picture she had done in Mixed media. The picture was accepted in her very first juried show at the Chesterton Art Gallery. This then led her to Wes Berrier a professional portrait artist in Hobart, Indiana who she had painted with for over two years.

In 2000, Dawn was approached to do her first Commercial Mural (4ft. x 6ft.) in Chicago, Illinois at a new Diagnostic Clinic and this then led to another commercial mural (5ft. x 6 1/2ft.) in Merrillville, Indiana. She has also done murals in private homes.

Artist's Statement

I am a conservative, wanting to be a liberal.
I am a perfectionist, trying to be loose and free.
I define with crisp lines, but I want to blur.
I am a realist when I want to be quirky.
I envision in my head, then portray it on to a canvas.
I want to paint freely from the visions in my head.

I show my paintings as a reflection of who I am now, where I want to be, and what I am becoming.  This is just the beginning for me.  The journey, that is my art, promises to be filled with more of my struggles, some conquering, and some new quirks.  I am never the same, I am an adventurer, a creator.  I am curious.

I have created all different themes in my art.  They are all different, yet they are the same.  They are a part of me that I give to you to enjoy.
